GOLD SLIPPERS.

That was the first thing my eyes saw.

Gold slippers adorned my feet—soft and heeled, they looked as silly as the shoes I saw in the shops I passed through Golden City. So silly, I never let myself admit they were beautiful.

I pushed myself up. A cool, marble floor stretched out beneath me, leading down a long, empty hallway. My soft breaths were the only echoing sound as I took stock of myself.

A gold, sheer dress wrapped around my body. Much like the ones Rosaleen wore, they gave a perfect view to my weaving tattoos and brand-new, not-threadbare breastband and underclothes. My outfit left nothing to the imagination, but it didn’t need to. I was alone.

Disappointment ran heavy in my bones, surprising me. It all felt real. The fabric against my skin. The breath filling my lungs. The faint chill in the air. Nothing of this world felt different from the one I knew, and even so, its wrongness hung in the air.

I was in a dream, but it sure wasn’t my fantasy. What did Darvin see in me that he thought my deepest desire was to stand in an empty hallway, wearing see-through clothes?

Noise drew my attention to the right. Curious, and a tiny bit hopeful, I set off in its direction.

My silly, pretty shoes click, click, clicked on the marble, trumpeting a steady tune to match my pounding heart. I couldn’t help my growing excitement. Chain orgasms while gorging on all the amazing foods I could only have if I stole them? I was eager for my fantasy to come true.

The closer I got, the easier it was to make out the sound. I turned the corner, and walked into the women’s bath.

There was no other place I could be, barring the unfamiliar hallway.

Marble steps led down to a sloped basin mimicking a riverbank. My path would guide me to a large bathing pool fed by a waterfall. After a long, grueling day, the female recruits gathered in the pool—laughing, splashing, soaking up the hot water. A dozen small alcoves overhead held sweetly smelling candles, scenting the air with jasmine, pine, and vanilla.

The bath was paradise compared to the freezing cold river baths I’d taken my whole life, but it was not my deepest fantasy. Why would my fantasy be to bathe in a bath I had access to every day?

“Excuse me, Darvin,” I whispered. “I don’t want to question you, but I’m pretty sure I’m in the wrong place. If you could point me—”

“...fuck...”

I stopped. Who was that?

Stepping down, I tiptoed along the short wall that concealed the bathers from the casual looker sticking their heads in. Peering around the wall, I discovered I wasn’t in the women’s bath, and why my subconscious offered up this fantasy.

Dominic stood in the pool, water to his thighs and no higher as he furiously stroked his cock.

My feet glued to the floor. I couldn’t move. I couldn’t look away.

To say Dominic was a handsome man was to insult him. He was more than handsome.
